Merry Christmas
So, I’ve never had a good history with relationships. I always end up leaving them because I get bored easily, but I try to do it in a nice way, and we always stay friends. That is, until this one came along. I met him online, and upon meeting in person in March, he was everything I could have wanted; smart, sweet, funny, interesting… you name it. I fell for him hard and fast, which wasn’t a good decision in retrospect, but at the time, he was the one for me. Everything was perfect until about 9 months into our relationship. He started working at an airsoft arena and spending all of his free time there. I wasn’t upset about it until it began interfering with our relationship; all I asked was that he kept Saturdays free so that we had time to do something, since I was also in college during the week and didn’t have a lot of free time. This wish was respected maybe once during his time there. I was annoyed, but not to the point where I would say anything, I just let it slide. Then, during final exams, when I hadn’t slept all week and had been frantically cramming for tests, he decides to tell me that he was developing feelings for this 16 year old girl at his workplace. Needless to say, I was upset, but I tried to be mature. I told him that he could either stay with me and push her away until his feelings subsided, or we could break up so he could figure out who he really wanted. This sent him into a panic: he started crying and begging me not to leave him. So I held him and comforted him, and promised to never bring it up again. Well, a little less than two weeks later, I went back to my hometown for Christmas break. During this time, he became increasingly distant, and I thought it was because of our conversation, so I tried to talk to him. He was extremely short with his responses, so I gave him space. Then on Christmas Eve, he texted me telling me that he was “curious about what else was out there sexually, and didn’t think we were going to work out”. He ended up dumping me through text, on Christmas Eve, for a 16 year old. Well, statutory rape is a pretty hefty conviction, so I hope it’s worth it before someone calls him out.

This is a bit interesting because my friend and I were talking about what it was about 16 year old girls for college-aged guys (She’s 21 and I’m 23 and we go to the same college). What we figured out there is nothing that they got going for themselves that we don’t. All they got is the preconception that 16 year olds are tighter and younger and we imagine that these are the men who grow up and are trying to hook up with 20 year olds in their 40s and 50s.
Sometimes things don’t work out. You clearly have your priorities in line because you were able to keep your grades up and appear like a mature adult the whole way through.
So I guess the best thing I can tell you is I hope you did fine on your finals and maybe it’s time to flirt with any cute guys in your study group!
The best answer I can give is to agree with Nancy. You seem mature. Forget the loser & focus on your studies. And as SM says, have fun.
