He Was Too Perfect
I made a huge mistake and it totally blew up in my face. It’s something that haunts me to this day and I always wonder how things would have been had I just not done it. It all started in the middle of my senior year of high school. My boyfriend was busy with school, sports, college applications, and just about everything else that got in the way of us spending any time together. I had my own things going on too but I wasn’t nearly as busy as he was. We had been together for over 2 years and we both saw us having a future together, we were happy.
As time passed, I started finding myself becoming increasingly lonely. He just never had time, and whenever he did seem to have some free time, he was either with family/friends or sleeping. He just didn’t seem that interested in me. There was this guy named Matt who had friended me on facebook. He sent me a message saying that he thought I was attractive and that we seemed to have a bunch of mutual interests. I told him that I had a boyfriend and we had remained friends since then. We would chat and text with each other, and he became someone who I could count on to talk to. I told him about how I was feeling about my boyfriend and he said so many sweet things and really made me feel cared for. It was like he was saying everything that I wanted my boyfriend to say. He kept asking me to meet up or video chat with him but something always seemed to get in the way. One night, my boyfriend and I got into a huge fight and I was so upset, I texted Matt and told him how I was feeling. He told me that I was too good for this and that someone as beautiful as me shouldn’t have to feel so bad. He sent me a bunch of funny pictures then asked me to send him a picture of my smile. One thing led to the next, and eventually he had convinced me to send him a topless pic of myself. He responded with a bunch of smiley face and heart emojis and said good night. I felt so much better.
I woke up the next morning with my mind spinning, wondering if I should just move on from my relationship and pursue things with Matt. Then I got a text message from my boyfriend. It was the topless photo that I had sent Matt with the caption “Busted, Bitch!” across the pic. My stomach dropped. I felt like I was going to pass out. I called him and he just picked up and hung up. He sent me a text saying that he didn’t want to talk to me, we were finished. There was no Matt. He was nothing more than a fake facebook account his sneaky sister and her friends had created in an attempt to break us up, and I had fallen right into their trap. I was embarrassed, thinking back on all the things I had said. And the worse part was that there was no Matt…no Matt….The guy who I considered both an amazing friend and potential boyfriend wasn’t real.
It took me a week to get out of bed and I went back to school feeling humiliated like everyone knew about what had happened, and for the most part everyone did know. The story got around fast and made me look like I was just out to cheat. I struggled to finish the year and I graduated and never looked

Tough lesson. Your generation has no concept of privacy. You put your entire life out there on the internet for anyone to see and comment on. It is a dangerous state of affairs. That topless pic of you is somewhere out in the ether where anyone can access it at any time. Hopefully, wherever it is, it doesn’t have your name attached to it. There are companies you can hire to look for internet dirt on you, and they will scrub it, making your internet presence “clean”. This kind of company did not exist even 3 years ago, but has become a necessity in this age where people will post anything and everything on any website, blog or social network.
I think it is wrong that you call his sister sneaky. She was doing what families do- protecting their own. How was she to know that you were going to fall for her plan? You could have been a stand-up girlfriend and been like, “Dude…Go away…Which part of ‘I have a boyfriend’ do you not understand?” But instead, you played a very dangerous little game that led to the demise of a good relationship. That’s on you. Not on her.
I hope you learned a lasting lesson from this misadventure. You screwed up royally. Now, it is time to move on. Look into hiring one of those internet scrubbers. Good luck.

Carrie, I think the sister and her friends were sneaky. There’s looking out for your own and there’s purposely and maliciously trying to break a couple up for no apparent reason other than they simply do not like you. OP said they had a boyfriend when the fake person started talking to them and continued on a friends only relationship. It’s not an excuse, but she was in a vulnerable position when she sent the topless pic and made a bad decision. However, anyone who makes a fake facebook profile to mess with someone and believes they’re looking out for their family member/friend has some serious problems.
Learn from this lesson, OP. Move on and find new love. You’re still young and this is the time to make mistakes.
Don’t waste time wondering how things would have turned out, he wasn’t that into you for whatever reason, you wouldn’t have lasted as a couple more than 2 years after high school.
Consider yourself fortunate that you didn’t last long enough to have brought kids into it.
A couple of things don’t jibe with this story. He was asking you to meet or video chat? How in the world were they going to pull that off? Also, I can see this happening over a period of a week or so, but you are saying that they carried on this charade for months? It just seems like a bit much. Also, I don’t understand how you “friend” somebody you don’t know on facebook, wouldn’t you expect that to end badly? Maybe I am just getting too old to understand kids these days…
You got catfished. And sending topless pics of yourself? When will people learn? If you’re going to send pics like that at least keep your face out of it. But whatever…you were unhappy and should have ended it instead of just staying with a boyfriend who wasn’t making time for you. Then all this would have been avoided.

OP – you do realize that your boyfriend was in on the set-up, right? If you would have gotten to the point of video chat or meeting either something would have come up so that he couldn’t make it OR one of the sister’s friends would have shown up. No matter what, the relationship was dead and you are better off. Sorry your tata’s are out there for the world to see. Just don’t do it again – or at least don’t put your face in the shot.
Have to agree with other comments: It seems highly unlikely that the OP’s BF was not at least aware of what was happening. I may be sounding like a technological peasant when I say this, but what motivates a young woman to send topless pictures to somebody she’s never even met? It may be easier to do something like that when there is little or no chance you’ll ever meet in person, but I can’t see the point. In this day and age, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that nothing good ever comes of taking a picture of your own boobs.
Eh… you made a mistake. Your boyfriend sounds like a real tool. Dont make that mistake again. Go forth and bare boobs via iPhone no more.
I think if someone is going to send pics of their boobs (or whatever) they better damn well not care if everyone they know sees it and knows about it. If you’re going to care, then don’t do it because it’s very likely to come out!

Yes, your boyfriend was ignoring you, and yes his sister is a conniving bitch (IF you are telling the accurate story), but you basically brought the problem upon yourself. I feel marginally sorry for you, but not all that much.
Hey I dont like the fact that she did it without breaking up with the boyfriend first (sounds to me like no matter what it was heading towards that) so thats bad… but I have absolutely no feet to stand on to villify her for sending a top shot to someone. Well, you’re a cheating skank, and so you got what you deserved. Whenever I see stories like this, I’m SO happy that the cheater ends up alone. They don’t deserve a significant other if all they’re going to do is cheat.
I do not condone cheating OP, and you certainly “done fucked it all up.”
I will say 2 things in your defense:
1.Any boyfriend and sister that would go to these lengths to “expose” someone who was on the borderline of cheating as opposed to sitting down and talking about it like adults has some serious insecurities about themselves and is most likely looking for an easy out. Count yourself fortunate to be away from pot stirrers like these people, they cause nothing but grief in your life.
2. It is obvious that your boyfriend was not providing you the emotional support that you needed, otherwise you would not have found “Matt” to be so appealing.
Next time you are in a relationship, I want you to ask yourself these questions:
1.What do I need from a relationship to be happy in order to keep myself from having a wandering eye?
2. What are my deal-breakers in a relationship?
3. What am I willing to compromise on?
4. How do I resolve issues in a relationship, such as not having my emotional needs fulfilled?
You claim that you two were so happy with your relationship that you saw yourself getting married to your boyfriend. If this was truly the case, would you have ever felt the need to get involved with “Matt?” This is just something to think about. Honestly, I don’t see that your relationship with this boy would have survived, even if “Matt” wasn’t around. Men in love make time for their special someones, even if they are truly busy.
I totally agree that his sister is a sneaky, meddling bitch. But let’s be honest here- your bf was just not man enough to break it off. That’s why he had his psycho sister do this. I wouldn’t even label you a cheater over this one pic, you didn’t do anything but have a severe lapse in judgement. You’re better off!
