The Not-So-Discreet Fade-out
We’d been going together for nearly 9 months. I called him on Thanksgiving to wish him a happy holiday – only to have the phone answered by a woman. I knew he had a friend staying over, so I wasn’t upset. She said he was gone camping with friends, and I asked her to pass the message that “Caircair” wished him a good holiday. Four months went by with no word back – no phone call, no nothing. I was bored one day so I started surfing the personal ads on one of the websites, and ran into one that sounded VERY familiar. The description, location, and all matched him perfectly, so I sent a quick reply to his ad, basically saying “If this is who I think it is, don’t bother responding, you bum! If you aren’t said person, please email me back.” Never heard a word from him again. The good news is, the ad I placed that day led to my husband – so thanks, bum, for not calling back. If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be so happily married today!

Caircair is a nickname. The personals were on Yahoo. I placed the reply to let said bum know I knew him for the slime he was/is. Then I met now-husband because he did a search on Yahoo for the word “gentleman”. Only two ads pulled up – his and mine.
