Over a Toothbrush
I was dating this guy for about 4 months. Things were great for a few months and then the fighting began. I would stay at his place a lot because I lived 30 minutes away from his place. It was easier that way. Every time we would fight he would put his foot down and say if I didn’t like it I could leave because I was in his house. I asked him multiple times if he meant it and he would always say no he was just mad. I told him then that it is very rude and he shouldn’t say it unless he means it, otherwise one day I will leave.
That day finally came. I was getting ready for work and he came in the bathroom to brush his teeth. I had recently replaced both our toothbrushes because we needed new ones. He finished up and tossed the toothbrush in the sink like a 5 year old. He began shouting that he didn’t like that toothbrush and it was hurting his gums. I told him I bought him a Med just like he asked. (I spent 5 min looking at every Med they had to find one he would like) He said that he didn’t say that he said he wanted soft. We argued back and forth for a few min about what he said. He finally said “If you keep saying that you can leave”.
So I packed up everything I had there and went back to my apartment. I had a desk left at his place because it was too heavy for me to move on my own. He texted me later and told me he was at his house. I told him I was at my apartment. He sent me a text and hour later that said I should come get the desk because it will be out on the curb.
I thought this was weird because I left in order to give us space, not to break up. I found out a few days later he thought I was being “disrespectful” because I called him a liar over a toothbrush and I should come crawling back to him.
I am not that stupid. In the end all his friends sided with me because I wasn’t the first girl he was a jerk to. He pulled a gun on his previous girlfriend that wouldn’t leave when he told her to. I count myself lucky that he didn’t pull the gun on me. But yes, in the end we broke up over a toothbrush. That’s ok all his friends agreed to buy me a kit to help me keep my next boyfriend. Three toothbrushes a soft a med and firm, so I will never be dumped over a toothbrush again.

If you broke up over such a trivial thing then it was never meant to be. Sounds like you got off easy, though. An adult male throwing a temper tantrum over a toothbrush? Seriously? He needs to grow up and learn to use his words. Idiot.
At first I didn’t realize you meant “medium” when you said “Med”. I thought you were talking about a special brand of toothbrush.
But wow, to throw a tantrum over a toothbrush? Good job getting out of there.

Question: Did you know about him pulling a gun on a previous girlfriend, or did his “friends” wait to tell you that until AFTER the break-up?
More Questions: How was it “easier” to spend overnight at his place so often if you lived a half-hour away? Was his place closer to your work or school? Or were you just too worn out from sexing it up to drive home afterwards? Why do so many people act like a 1/2 hr. drive is such an insurmountable distance?

This guy sounds like a loose cannon. A freak out over a toothbrush? Crazy. I like the joke your friends made though, that’s pretty funny and you seem to have a good sense of humor over it all.
It was closer to work for me. But I am busy with work, school, and going to the gym. So it was easier to just stay there so we had some time together. Bad call I know but I did keep my own place. His friends told me after about the gun.
You left but didn’t intend to break up? Methinks you need to review your strategy. If someone says, ‘you don’t like it, you can leave’, and you leave, then it’s a logical assumption that it’s over.
Bravo, OP! This kind of story is what this site is supposed to be about–getting dumped over something ridiculous, or in a very bizarre way.
