I was engaged to my ex for two years when her migraines that usually appeared during her period became a daily event. Every single day she would have a migraine–the only question was whether it would be the kind of headache that kept her in bed with the room blacked out and crawling to the bathroom to vomit or just the kind that made her day miserable but functional.
Two years of these daily migraines went by. We went to doctors, I massaged her tight muscles, I listened to her cry, and I supported her as best I could. Needless to say, there was no intimacy at all. No loving moments. No sex or cuddling. Nothing but sharp comments, short temper, and anger. I assumed it was all the pain she was in. The relationship sucked, but you don’t leave the person you love just because they’re sick…you stick by them and support them. So I did.
After two years of this, I found out that she had taken out a $42,000 second mortgage on our house without my knowledge or signature and paid off every credit card that had her name on it. None of mine, just hers. Soon after, she was vacuuming the porch when she suddenly turned to me and said, “Why don’t we just call this off before we start hating each other.”
My first thought was, “Too late.” I did agree, and moved from a three bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment. I left my dog with her because there was more room at the house, and I also left a lot of my things with her promise I could come and get them when I had room. Three months later, I went back to get them, and the locks had been changed. When I knocked, a stranger answered the door and told me she had sold the house and left the state.
