A Family Affair
I met this girl during my freshman year in college. We were from the same town, and had tons in common, so we just clicked. Her dorm was on the floor below mine, and we took a lot of the same classes, so we were always together. As the school year came to a close, she started to get really worried about the amount of time we would be spending together over the summer. I assured her that we would have plenty of time to spend together over break, even though I had a part time job lined up. We headed home the following week, and it was like she changed as soon as we got back. She called me nonstop and constantly questioned where I was and what I was doing. I was beginning to get annoyed by her behavior, so I let her know that it was starting to get to me. She responded by becoming even more clingy and acting really needy. One day, my mom and her sister hosted a birthday party for my grandfather at my house. We had lots of family over, some I hadn’t seen in a long time. When my girlfriend first called, I told her that I wouldn’t be able to see her that day because I was celebrating my grandpa’s birthday with my family. She got offended that I hadn’t invited her to the party, and started accusing me of trying to hide her from my family. The only reason I hadn’t invited her is because I knew how she would act, and I didn’t want to spend the entire party sitting in a corner with her, missing out on the fun with my relatives. As I was telling her that we would get together later that night, my cousins ran over to me and started messing with me and yelling stuff in the background – my boy and girl cousins. Once she heard other female voices, she freaked! She said that I hadn’t invited her because I was trying to kick it with other girls. Even though I explained that the girls were my cousins, she didn’t want to hear it, and she hung up on me. About an hour later, my brother comes running up to my room yelling, “aye, your girl is outside at her car. She’s looking for you.” My cousins and I headed downstairs. I walked over to my girlfriend’s car and asked why she had shown up at the party. She started yelling about me trying to cheat on her so loud, that half the party was looking out the windows at us. I asked her to leave. Instead she points to one of my female cousins and says, “Is that the skank you came to the party with instead of me. Then she pushed me and got in her car. As she was about to pull off, she rolled down her window and yelled “f**** you, ________!” and threw the jacket I had in the car on the ground and drove over it. I was so embarrassed, and had to stop a few of my female cousins from going after her. The worst part of the whole thing isn’t the party, but the fact that we will be living near each other next year, and we registered for all of the same courses months ago. I need the classes for my major and the other classes are already too full to transfer into.
